Week 3 - Shakespeare and Hamlet

Shakespeare's Hamlet has caused many reactions over the years. Most commonly the student first begins to panic. What is your impression of Act I so far? What has surprised you?

  1. This is much tougher reading when you are reading a play. I don't think I could every be an actor and keep up with the plot. LOL.
It is interesting but tough going. Maybe I should have tackled the reading assignment before I froze 16 Dozen ears worth of corn. That task is done and now my husband tells me I will probably have peaches to prepare on Monday. Uggh! He is thinking about 3 bushel should be enough...I asked for who? The whole neighborhood? He has little concept of how many that really is.
Well back to writing my essay... I think I will tackle the concept of theme.

  2. I agree with Kelly in that you really have to concentrate in order for it to be fun to read. The Elizabethan Era was a strange time to me. Shakespeare writings were hard to follow. After reading a translated version, the plot was much easier to follow and the story became more interesting. In Act I it seems to be nothing more than a science fiction thriller about a dead ghost who is asking his son to revenge his name. The language barrier is the only difference I see in Hamlet (ACT I) and say the first few seens of a Harry Potter movie.
